Surveillance Footage Reveals: Family of Five Filmed in Altenessen Shopping Center by Automobile

On August 30, 2025, a tragic incident occurred on a parking deck in Essen-Altenessen, Germany. The accident involved a five-member family, three children, and a pedestrian, resulting in several injuries.

According to reports, a 60-year-old driver was responsible for hitting the three children. Unfortunately, one child was trapped under the vehicle and required rescue by the fire department, who used airbags to extricate the child. The 14-year-old child suffered severe injuries in the accident. Thankfully, two of the children managed to free themselves from the situation.

The Mercedes involved in the accident was impounded to determine the cause, while a parked Ford Mondeo was also damaged. All the injured individuals were taken to nearby hospitals for further medical treatment. A 34-year-old pedestrian was also slightly injured in the accident.

In a disturbing turn of events, a 44-year-old man, a relative of those involved in the accident, disrupted the operation, ignored requests to keep a distance, behaved aggressively, and insulted the emergency services. During the investigation, he attacked an officer, missing but lightly injuring the officer by scratching him and hitting him with a cigarette. The man was then restrained by the officers and taken into custody.

The police have begun investigating the cause of the accident, with the Mercedes' driver's identity remaining undisclosed at this time. The 44-year-old man from Essen has been identified as the individual who was arrested for assaulting a public official during the investigation.

The emergency services, including firefighters from Altenessen, Stadthafen, and Mitte, as well as the heavy rescue squad, several rescue vehicles, and the fire department's command service, were deployed to the scene to assist with the rescue and aftermath of the accident.

Our thoughts go out to those affected by this incident, and we hope for a speedy recovery for all the injured parties. The investigation is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
