Robert John "Bob" Thee, Beloved Iowa Native, Passes Away at 75
Robert John "Bob" Thee, a well-respected figure in his community, passed away on August 22, 2025, in Lancaster, Iowa. Born in Iowa to John and Evelyn Thee, Bob was a proud son of the state, graduating from Tipton High School before attending Iowa State University, where he earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees.
Bob's life was marked by a deep sense of service and dedication. After graduation, he served in the Vietnam conflict with the 14th Infantry Division as a 12 Bravo Combat Engineer, earning an honorable discharge at the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-5). Following his military service, Bob pursued his Ph.D. at Columbia University.
Throughout his career, Bob worked with South Dakota State Extension Services and later moved to Pennsylvania to work with Penn State Extension Services. He retired in 2012 after many years of service, but his retirement years were far from idle. Bob became a docent at Wheatland House in Lancaster, sharing his knowledge and passion for history with visitors.
Bob was a member of The Masonic Golden Rule Lodge #24 in Rochester, Iowa, and a devoted fan of Iowa State University Cyclones. He had a passion for travel and enjoyed exploring Europe and tracing his family roots. Bob is survived by his siblings Richard Wehde (Lois Jean), Ruel Wehde (Janet), Larry Wehde (Judy), and Cindy Hambright (Rich), as well as his beloved aunt, Delores Phelps. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and extended family members in Donahue and Scott County, Iowa.
Visitation for Bob will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM. After the service, a luncheon will be served at the Tipton VFW. Following the luncheon, the family will proceed to Allens Grove Cemetery in Donahue, Iowa, for graveside services and burial.
In lieu of flowers, memorials for Bob can be designated to the Tipton Public Library, Friends of the Animals, or the Cedar County Historical Society. Bob's life will be celebrated by those who knew him, and his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
