Swamp People Star, Junior Edwards, Passes Away; Cast Mates Offer Heartfelt Tributes
Junior Edwards, a beloved and original cast member of History's docuseries Swamp People, has passed away. The news was announced by Ashley 'Deadeye' Jones, a former costar, on Instagram on July 26, 2020.
Junior Edwards was a mainstay on the show for six seasons, showcasing his skills as one of the greatest alligator hunters and a real hardcore outdoorsman. He made a shocking return for season 12 of Swamp People in 2021, much to the delight of fans.
Lil' Willie Edwards, Junior's grandson, announced earlier this month that he was in failing health. On July 6, Lil' Willie Edwards reached out to his grandfather's fans on social media, requesting prayers for Junior's health.
The cause of death and exact age of Junior Edwards are not publicly revealed.
Ronnie Adams, another Swamp People cast member, expressed condolences for the Edwards family on social media. Many Swamp People viewers responded to Ashley's post with condolences and expressed hope that the show will celebrate Junior's memory. One viewer even hoped the show would honor Junior Edwards forever.
Swamp People chronicles the dangerous and grueling work of hunters tracking American alligators in the swamps of the Atchafalaya Basin in southern Louisiana. The show has been so successful for the cable channel that it launched several spinoffs, including an Outback Hunters show and investigative documentary series Swamp Mysteries, hosted by Troy Landry, a cast member on Swamp People and another beloved figure in the swamp hunting community.
A Florida-based companion format titled Swamp People Serpent Invasion followed Troy Landry and his crew's attempts to eradicate Burmese pythons from the Everglades.
Lil' Willie Edwards also posted a memorial message on Facebook for Junior Edwards, expressing his love and missing him.
