In the heart of Southeast Asia, Vietnam is commemorating eight decades of independence, a journey marked by resilience, sacrifice, and triumph. The anniversary celebrations, taking place in 2025, are a testament to the nation's enduring spirit and its unwavering commitment to peace.

Ambassador Phạm Quang Vinh, a former Deputy Foreign Minister and President of the Việt Nam-US Society, expresses deep emotions about Vietnam's story over the past 80 years. He notes the nation's achievements, including its steady rise on the international stage, and the profound lessons learned from President Hồ Chí Minh's international strategy, articulated during difficult times.

Among the many stories of courage and determination, that of Veteran Lê Tấn stands out. Tấn, now 78, was the Battalion Commander of Regiment 101, Corps 2, and participated in the 81-day battle to protect Quảng Trị Citadel in 1972. His experiences, filled with heartbreak and pain from witnessing comrades sacrifice and burying them during the war, are a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made for Vietnam's independence.

Artist Nguyễn Thị Mộng Bích, 94, lived through the war years and lost many family members as martyrs. Her deep hatred for war and her unwavering commitment to peace are a testament to the spirit that has sustained Vietnam through its challenges.

Vietnam's journey to independence is also a story of cooperation and partnership. Over the past four decades, the country has managed to maintain cooperative partnerships with all countries, including the major powers, despite a world of deep divisions and fierce competition. This is evident in Vietnam's more than 30 partnerships at various levels, including with all the permanent members of the UN Security Council.

Twice serving as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and sending troops to UN peacekeeping missions in Africa have elevated Vietnam's standing in the international community. These efforts, combined with Vietnam's achievement of comprehensive and extensive international integration, have resulted in significant international recognition from participating in regional and global mechanisms.

Professor Nguyễn Quang Ngọc believes Vietnam today has all the conditions to grow rapidly, strongly, and sustainably. Over the past four decades, Vietnam has transformed from a war-torn and blockaded country into a dynamic destination for investment and development, and one of the most attractive tourist destinations in the world.

The victories at Điện Biên Phủ, the Great Spring Victory, and the country's reunification have contributed greatly to Vietnam's reputation. These milestones, along with the birth of the Democratic Republic of Việt Nam on September 2, 1945, in Ba Đình Square, Hà Nội, are moments that millions of Vietnamese hearts turn towards in celebration of the anniversary.

As Vietnam marks this significant milestone, there is a great sense of pride, love for the nation, and enthusiasm across all walks of life. The anniversary celebrations are a time to remember the past, celebrate the present, and look forward to the future with hope and optimism.
