Syracuse University Art Museum Marks Professor Emeritus Sarah McCoubrey's Extensive Artistic Journey Over the Decades
Syracuse University Art Museum is set to showcase the creative achievements of renowned artist and educator, Sarah McCoubrey, in an upcoming retrospective exhibition titled "Currents: Sarah McCoubrey." The exhibition, which will run until September 18, offers a comprehensive survey of McCoubrey's exploration of various media and themes, including ecology, technology, landscape, and humanity.
McCoubrey, a Professor Emeritus at Syracuse University, has made a significant impact on the art world with her 34-year artistic legacy. She has held solo exhibitions at prestigious institutions such as the Everson Museum of Art, the Clifford Gallery at Colgate College, The Bannister Gallery at Rhode Island College, the Luther Brady Gallery at George Washington University, and the Morris Gallery at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
Andrew Saluti, a curator and art historian, curated the exhibition and notes that McCoubrey's work exhibits an unexpected range, exploring diverse themes and media. Saluti, who is also a fellow Syracuse University professor, praises McCoubrey's impact on the landscape art genre and the Syracuse community.
Emily Dittman, the director of the Syracuse University Art Museum, expresses her admiration for McCoubrey's work, stating that it invites viewers into a world that is both beautiful and disturbing, amusing and sober. As an educator, McCoubrey has inspired generations of emerging artists in the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University to think beyond traditional approaches and to be fearless in their creative process.
The retrospective exhibition showcases McCoubrey's career, displaying her well-known landscape paintings alongside recent and never-before-seen paintings and drawings. The closing reception and artist talk for McCoubrey's work will take place on September 10 at the Bernard and Louise Palitz Gallery in Manhattan. The event is open to the public.
Throughout her career, McCoubrey has received numerous accolades, including a 2010 and 2004 New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in Painting, as well as a 2006 New York State Council for the Arts Fellowship. She has been represented by the Locks Gallery in Philadelphia.
