Tanks deployed by Israel advance further into Gaza City, prompting residents to evacuate their homes en masse
In the ongoing conflict between Israel and Gaza, tensions have escalated as the Israeli military has expanded its offensive westward and pushed tanks deeper into Gaza City. The current president of the Israeli government, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is leading the charge in this conflict.
On Tuesday, Netanyahu convened his security cabinet to discuss a new offensive to seize Gaza City. This decision comes after reports of explosives-laden vehicles being detonated in one Gaza City suburb, resulting in at least 19 civilian casualties. Local health authorities report that women and children were among the victims.
The Israeli military had no immediate comment on the reports of civilian casualties in Gaza City. However, they claim to have struck a Hezbollah site in south Lebanon, a move that may not be directly related to the situation in Gaza.
The war began on October 7, 2023, with a Hamas-led attack on southern Israel, resulting in around 1,200 deaths, mostly civilians, and 251 hostages. Since then, at least 98 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire across the Gaza Strip in the past 24 hours, according to the Gaza health ministry.
The Israeli military campaign has been a contentious issue, with the International Association of Genocide Scholars passing a resolution stating that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. However, Israel's military campaign has not been acknowledged by Israel to have caused the reported deaths from malnutrition and starvation in Gaza.
Nine more people, including three children, have died of malnutrition and starvation in Gaza, raising the total to at least 348, including 127 children. This tragic situation has plunged the enclave into a humanitarian crisis and left much of it in ruins.
The goal of Israel's plan is to destroy Hamas and rescue the remaining 48 hostages. Residents of Sheikh Radwan neighborhood have reported Israeli forces destroying houses with old armored vehicles and forcing families to flee.
Protests in Israel calling for an end to the war and the release of the hostages have intensified in the past weeks. Ceasefire talks ended in July in deadlock, and efforts to revive them have so far failed. As the conflict continues, both sides call for a peaceful resolution, but the loss of life and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza remain a pressing concern.
