Tech Sector Highlight: Ruth Bosse of Ark Climate
Ruth Bosse, a seasoned professional with a background in mathematics, business administration, and political climate protection, has embarked on a new venture - Ark Climate. This digital operating system aims to revolutionise the way modern administrations function, focusing on data-driven, efficient, and citizen-centric solutions.
Bosse's entrepreneurial spirit was inspired by her late grandfather, who founded a company in 1983. Despite not knowing his name, Bosse cherishes the memory of her ancestor and the lessons she believes he would have imparted about starting a company in the past.
Ark Climate was officially launched in 2023, and within a year, it had 16 municipalities as customers and generated revenue of €500,000. The company's mission is to provide a platform where outstanding individuals can make a real difference, develop personally, and enjoy working together.
In late 2024, Ark Climate completed a pre-seed round of €1 million. This round was led by climate tech venture capitalist Satgana, along with other VCs and business angels with extensive experience in government tech and climate tech.
Before founding Ark Climate, Bosse was a project manager at McKinsey, where she advised cities on climate protection and adaptation. One of her notable achievements was developing the 2022 climate roadmap for the city of Stuttgart.
Ideas for Ark Climate arise from various sources, including shared exchanges with the team, clients, people from politics and climate protection, and through shared sports or art. Bosse also uses tools like ChatGPT for quick input, sparring on content, initial research, and structuring ideas. For task prioritization and time management, she relies on Asana, while Notion serves as the central knowledge and content tool for Ark Climate.
Bosse's vision for Ark Climate extends beyond a tool for municipal climate protection management. She envisions it as a comprehensive digital operating system for modern administrations, aiming to motivate people to vote more democratically and better plan and implement decisions.
Ark Climate also benefits from funding programs such as the EXIST start-up grant and the BMWK's "Digital Innovation" start-up prize. Bosse's active involvement in local politics for 18 years has undoubtedly played a role in securing these grants.
In addition to her work with Ark Climate, Bosse sees women's health as an area that needs more research and solutions. She believes that now is a good time to start a business due to the momentum in digitalization and climate protection. However, understanding the current state of the person she is pitching to is crucial, according to Bosse.
As for the Munich startup location, Bosse suggests a focus on problem-orientation. By addressing real-world issues and providing innovative solutions, she believes that Munich can establish itself as a hub for impactful startups.
