In an anticipated return to his hometown team, Düsseldorf native and ice hockey player Mr. Hane has arrived in the city following an 18-hour journey. The veteran player is gearing up for his fifth Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) season with the DEG, a team known for its formidable defense – the best in the DEL league.
Mr. Hane, who has been keeping his pre-game tension under wraps, spoke highly of his teammates, particularly Mathias Niederberger and Bobby Goepfert, whom he named as top DEG players. He finds it a double-edged sword playing for a team with such a strong defense, acknowledging that Niederberger's contributions have been instrumental in maintaining the team's defensive prowess.
The DEG team's first match of the new season will be against Nürnberg on Friday, followed by a game against Straubing on Sunday. Mr. Hane is expecting both games to be tough, close matches, emphasising that every point in the upcoming games will be important.
During his career, Mr. Hane has had many notable moments, but his most memorable event from the World Cup was the victory against the Czech Republic (4:3). He also mentioned Mathias Niederberger as a top goalie and a source of learning.
In a recent vote for the best DEG players of all time, Mr. Hane received votes, a testament to his contributions to the team. However, there is currently no public information available about his nomination status for the upcoming DEL season.
As the games approach, Mr. Hane expressed his readiness to play every game, and he believes the team is now capable of keeping up with the other big nations. He is optimistic that these upcoming matches will be interesting for the fans, promising an exciting season ahead.
