In a recent analysis, comparison portal Verivox has revealed that over 40% of mobile tariffs in Germany see a price increase after 24 months of contract duration. The average increase in the basic fee represents a 66% rise, amounting to approximately 16 euros per month.

The findings highlight that these price hikes are primarily due to increased network costs and inflationary pressures affecting operating expenses. The broader cost increases in energy and infrastructure are being passed on to customers to cover higher wholesale and operational costs.

The evaluation, which includes 225 different tariffs, does not consider any changes in the terms and conditions, additional services, roaming charges, or the data volume or call minutes offered by the tariffs after the 24th month. It is important to note that both discounters and network operators are affected by these price increases.

The comparison of postpaid mobile tariffs for private customers with a minimum contract duration of 1 to 24 months also includes youth tariffs. However, it excludes one-time fees and time-limited promotional prices. The costs of the 225 evaluated tariffs were compared from the 25th month onwards.

As of December 2021, consumers can cancel telecommunications contracts with a one-month notice period after the minimum term. This provides some flexibility for customers who wish to switch providers in response to these price increases.

It is essential for consumers to stay informed about changes in their mobile tariffs to make informed decisions about their usage and costs. By understanding the trends in price increases and the factors driving them, consumers can better navigate the mobile market and make choices that suit their needs and budgets.
