In a significant move for India's electronics manufacturing sector, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has suggested that Optiemus Infracom should increase its research team headcount to 400. This announcement comes as the industry has witnessed a six-fold increase, reaching a production value of ₹11.5 lakh crore.

Optiemus Infracom, a prominent player in the sector, has already made substantial investments in the industry. The company invested approximately 150 crore INR in the establishment and expansion of a glass factory in Noida. For the expansion project, Optiemus Infracom will invest an additional ₹800 crore.

The Noida factory, in partnership with Corning, a US-based material technology firm, produces tempered glass. The factory, which has an installed capacity of 2.5 crore units per annum, aims to generate direct employment of more than 600 people. Optiemus Infracom plans to scale up the facility capacity to 20 crore units per annum in 'Phase 2'.

In a strategic move, Optiemus Infracom also plans to set up another factory in Noida with an installed capacity of 10 crore units. Additionally, the company plans to establish a factory in the South with an initial installed capacity of 15 crore units.

The electronics manufacturing sector has been a significant contributor to employment in India, generating direct and indirect employment for 25 lakh people. The sector's exports have also surpassed ₹3 lakh crore.

Optiemus Infracom's latest investment and expansion plans are expected to attract attention from stock market investors. On Monday, 1 September 2025, investors will focus on Optiemus Infracom following the Minister's inauguration move.

Notably, Optiemus Infracom has also set up a joint venture unit in Chennai with US-based Corning to make cover glass, which is used on top of mobile displays. The venture is expected to start by the end of 2025. The company also plans to start selling 'Made in India' tempered glass under the brand name RhinoTech in September 2025, with unlimited replacement facilities during the one-year warranty period.

Ashok Kumar Gupta, the Chairman of Optiemus Infracom, leads the company's strategic expansion plans. However, no new information about the start of operations for the joint venture unit in Chennai has been provided.

Optiemus Infracom's shares closed 0.67% lower at ₹556.30 after Friday's stock market session. Despite the slight dip, the company's ambitious expansion plans indicate a promising future for India's electronics manufacturing industry.
