Temporary Shutdown of Emergency Lodgings
In the heart of Bavaria, the district of Schierling has taken a proactive approach to integrating asylum seekers into the local community. Since the opening of the emergency shelter at Gewerbering 29 in December 2022, the County Administration has been working diligently to place temporary and skilled workers from the shelter into suitable jobs.
District Administrator Tanja Schweiger has highlighted the importance of considering the qualifications of applicants and the specific needs of companies in the placement process. A network of local companies and representatives of the Regensburg County Administration was established to facilitate this process.
As of now, there are 50 residents at the shelter, hailing from Syria, Iran, and Ethiopia. Nineteen of these residents have already received refugee status from the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees. The County Administration notes that it can place people from the emergency shelter in suitable jobs due to its good contacts with the local economy.
The process of job placement takes into account the qualifications of the applicants and the specific needs of the companies. Good contacts with the local economy, particularly with the personnel departments of companies, are being utilised to place people from the emergency shelter in jobs.
However, the asylum situation still presents challenges, such as integrating asylum seekers into the local job market. District Administrator Tanja Schweiger has acknowledged this, stating that the time when the hall was used for asylum accommodation was peaceful due to a considerate coexistence.
The integration management of the district is particularly focused on organising housing near workplaces for those who have found jobs in Schierling. The remaining individuals will be distributed to the NUK Schierling in Seefeldstraße and decentralized accommodations in the district.
While there is no publicly available information specifying which companies in Schierling have hired employees from emergency shelters between December 2022 and the current date, the County Administration is actively working to facilitate the placement of people from the emergency shelter in jobs.
Notably, nineteen residents are now considered "wrongly accommodated" and are urged to find private housing and leave state-provided accommodation. The County Administration continues to support these individuals in their transition to independent living.
The County Administration's efforts in Schierling serve as an example of proactive integration, demonstrating a commitment to fostering a welcoming and inclusive community for all its residents.
