Tennis ace, Novak Djokovic, advances past Norrie in the US Open, reaching the round of 16.
Novak Djokovic Advances to Fourth Round of US Open 2025
Novak Djokovic, the world number one tennis player, secured a place in the fourth round of the US Open 2025 after a hard-fought victory over Britain's Cameron Norrie. The match did not go to plan for Djokovic, who had to dig deep to secure a 6-4, 6-7 (4/7), 6-2, 6-3 victory.
Djokovic earned a record 192nd Grand Slam match win on hard courts, and he is through to the fourth round in New York for the 16th time in his career. However, the match was not won in straight sets, with Norrie putting up a strong fight, particularly in the second set where he won the tie-break.
Norrie started the third set strongly, making an early break, but Djokovic responded by winning four consecutive games to take control of the match. The Serbian star made another break in the fourth set to secure the victory and set up a clash with German veteran Jan-Lennard Struff in the next round.
Struff, who last won a tournament in 2019 at the BMW Open in Munich, has already knocked out two seeds in Holger Rune and Frances Tiafoe. Djokovic has defeated Norrie in all seven of their meetings, but Struff will provide a stern test for the world number one.
During the match, Djokovic summoned the physio to work on his lower back, but he refused to discuss the nature of his back issue after the match. The Serbian star stated that he is still trying to find his rhythm and groove on the court, but he is still in the hunt for an unprecedented 25th major title.
Djokovic returned to the court after the medical timeout to serve out the first set, and he did so with ease, setting the tone for the rest of the match. As the match wore on, Djokovic's experience and class shone through, as he closed out the victory in style.
With the fourth round now in sight, Djokovic will be looking to continue his impressive run at the US Open and take another step towards history. The German veteran Jan-Lennard Struff will provide a tough test, but Djokovic will be confident of coming out on top and advancing to the quarter-finals.
