Aryna Sabalenka defended her US Open title in an exciting final against Amanda Anisimova, marking her fourth grand slam win and making her the first woman to successfully defend her US Open title since Serena Williams in 2014.

The match, played with the roof closed due to heavy rain in Queens, started with Sabalenka serving for the title. Despite Anisimova's initial efforts, Sabalenka forged ahead, leading 5-3 in the second set.

Anisimova struggled with the roof lighting on her ball toss and her serve proved to be a liability. This was evident as she amassed a total of 29 unforced errors, including seven double faults. In contrast, Sabalenka used her experience on the big stage to keep things steady rather than spectacular.

The crowd greeted every winner with a huge cheer, adding to the electric atmosphere during the match. However, Anisimova's frustration began to show when she slammed a ball down in frustration after giving Sabalenka another break in the third game of the second set.

Sabalenka won three games in a row, taking the second set to a tie-break. The final point of the match saw Anisimova's backhand land just out, securing Sabalenka's victory.

After the match, Sabalenka cried and expressed relief, having avenged her loss to Anisimova in the semi-finals at Wimbledon earlier in the year. Anisimova's run of losing games in grand slam finals now stands at 14.

Sabalenka's US Open triumph adds two more trophies to her collection, joining her two Australian Open titles and two US Open victories. This victory also places her in an elite group of women who have successfully defended their US Open title, a group that includes the legendary Serena Williams.

The atmosphere during the match had an extra edge due to the closed roof, adding to the intensity of the match. Both players were aiming to bury recent grand slam losses, with Sabalenka seeking redemption after her Wimbledon defeat, and Anisimova looking to break her grand slam final losing streak.

Despite the challenging conditions and the pressure, Sabalenka showed resilience and determination, securing her place in the history books as a multiple grand slam champion and the current US Open champion.
