Tennis player Fucsovics secures victory over van de Zandschulp, claiming title at ATP Winston-Salem tournament
The US Open, the final Grand Slam tournament of the year, is set to begin in New York on Sunday. Among the exciting first-round matchups is a clash between two promising young players, Holger Rune and Marton Fucsovics.
Holger Rune, the 11th seed at the US Open, is a professional Danish tennis player born on April 29, 2003. Known for winning five ATP singles titles, including the 2022 Paris Masters 1000, where he defeated Novak Djokovic in the final, Rune has been ranked as high as world No. 4. He is recognized as one of the top players on the ATP Tour.
Fucsovics, who is 33 years old, has also had a successful career. He won an ATP 250 tournament and was the winner in Bucharest last year. However, his journey at the US Open this year started with a challenging encounter against his Dutch foe, Tallon Griekspoor.
The match went to a tiebreaker, and it was a close contest. Fucsovics squandered a match point with a double fault at 5-2 in the second set. But he managed to regroup and forced errors from his opponent in the decider to secure the victory.
Meanwhile, Tallon Griekspoor's Dutch compatriot, Botic van de Zandschulp, is due to compete in the US Open. Last year, he stunned Carlos Alcaraz in the second round at the US Open and was seeking his first ATP title. Unfortunately for him, he will face Holger Rune in the first round this year.
On the other side of the draw, Fucsovics is scheduled to face Denis Shapovalov in the first round. Shapovalov, who is also a participant in the US Open, will be waiting for the outcome of the Fucsovics-Rune match.
