Young Italian Star Jannik Sinner Makes History at the US Open

Jannik Sinner, the 24-year-old Italian tennis sensation, is making waves in the tennis world as he competes in the US Open semifinals this Friday evening. This isn't just any ordinary semifinals appearance for Sinner, as he has already reached the final round of all four Grand Slam tournaments this season.

Sinner's achievement is particularly noteworthy given that he is as young as tennis greats such as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic were during their first seasons with four semifinals in Grand Slams. Interestingly, Sinner's feat is the same as Nadal's, but he accomplished it at a slightly older age.

Sinner's opponent in the US Open semifinals is Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime. This match promises to be a thrilling one, with both players demonstrating impressive form this season.

Speaking of impressive feats, only eight players have reached the final round of all four Grand Slam tournaments in a season since the Open era, according to a count by "Jeu, Set et Maths". Besides Sinner and Novak Djokovic, the only other player to achieve this feat was the legendary Rod Laver, who did so in 1969.

Djokovic holds the record for achieving this feat the most, having done so seven times, in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2021, 2023, and 2025. On the other hand, Roger Federer achieved this feat five consecutive seasons from 2005 to 2009.

The record for the youngest player to reach the final round of all four Grand Slam tournaments in a season is held by Nadal, who was just 22 years old. This was a remarkable year for Nadal, as he not only reached the US Open final but also won Roland-Garros and Wimbledon.

As Sinner prepares to take on Auger-Aliassime, the world watches with bated breath, eager to see if he can continue his impressive run in the US Open and potentially etch his name among the tennis greats.
