Tennis player Ons Jabeur finds Dubai academy a 'wish fulfilled'
Tennis star Ons Jabeur, a three-time Grand Slam finalist, has announced the launch of her own academy in Dubai. The Ons Jabeur Academy, built on passion and dedication, aims to provide opportunities for young players to grow, believe in themselves, and discover the joy of tennis.
Jabeur, who hails from Tunisia, expressed her delight at the academy being a "dream come true." The Dubai academy is set to be an exciting addition to the UAE's sporting landscape, scheduled to open before the end of 2025 at HCT - Dubai Academic City Campus.
The academy's mission extends beyond tennis, as Jabeur has launched the Ons Jabeur Foundation, a charity aimed at empowering women and children, particularly those from underserved areas, by providing access to sports, education, and life-changing opportunities.
Jabeur's philanthropic efforts also include the Serve For Gaza initiative, which uses tennis as a platform to raise donations and put pressure for humanitarian aid to reach those in need.
In a recent development, Jabeur announced that she would be taking a "step back" following her on-court struggles and lack of happiness. However, she remains optimistic about inspiring more youngsters in the Middle East to take up tennis.
The region has seen a growth in tennis, with top ATP and WTA tournaments being hosted. Jabeur considers the Middle East tour, including Doha, Dubai, and now Abu Dhabi, as the biggest and most important part of the tour for her.
The academy has a new social media account dedicated to updates, programs, and participation opportunities. Interested individuals are encouraged to follow the account for the latest news and announcements.
Jabeur last competed at Wimbledon where she had to retire from her first-round match. For now, she is taking a break from tennis, but her passion for the sport and her commitment to nurturing the next generation of tennis players remain undeterred. The official opening location of the Ons Jabeur Academy is yet to be specified.
