Naomi Osaka, the defending champion, and unseeded prodigy Amanda Anisimova will face each other in the semifinals of the 2025 US Open. This marks their second encounter at a Grand Slam event, following their first meeting at the Australian Open in 2022.

Their previous encounter saw Anisimova emerge victorious, a feat she has repeated in both matches against Osaka. In their most recent clash, at the French Open less than five months ago, Anisimova clinched a straight sets win, overcoming Osaka's challenging serve that resulted in four double-faults in the first set alone.

Osaka, however, has shown signs of a resurgence in form, reminiscent of her Grand Slam-winning days. She reached the final of the Canadian Open before the US Open, and her quarterfinal victory over world No.3 Coco Gauff at the US Open indicates she is in top form.

Anisimova, on the other hand, is aiming for consecutive major finals, having reached the quarterfinals of the 2025 US Open. Like Osaka, she has caused an upset in the tournament so far.

Interestingly, Tomasz Wiktorowski, who previously coached Iga Swiatek, helping her reach No. 1 in the world and win five of her six Grand Slam titles, is now Osaka's coach. Wiktorowski's guidance seems to be paying off, as Osaka's current form suggests.

Their semifinal match at the 2025 US Open is expected to be challenging, with both players determined to secure a spot in the final. Anisimova's victory over Swiatek at the 2022 US Open quarterfinals serves as a testament to her fighting spirit.

Their first encounter at the Australian Open in 2022 saw Anisimova come back from being two match points down to win the match against Osaka. This demonstrates the young prodigy's resilience and ability to perform under pressure.

Despite Osaka's recent form and the guidance of a highly successful coach, Anisimova will undoubtedly pose a significant challenge. The semifinal match promises to be an exciting and closely contested affair.
