Tesla Model Y Traveled 19,000 Miles in a Year, Here's Why This Owner Endorses It as a Daily Commuter

In a detailed post on Facebook, Clint Fiore, a Tesla Model Y owner, has shared his experiences after driving the electric vehicle for a year. Clint finds the acceleration and handling of the Model Y incredible, stating that it's 20 years ahead of other cars in terms of technology.

Clint's ownership of the Model Y has been cost-effective, with zero maintenance costs so far. He saved time by not having to stop at gas stations, spending a total of 120 minutes at "gas stations" over the year. His charging costs for the Model Y were approximately $40-65 per month, with a total of about $700 spent on charging. Clint mentioned that 93% of his charging costs were at home, and 7% at superchargers.

Clint finds road trips with the Model Y easy due to the convenience of superchargers and Tesla's navigation system. He appreciates the convenience of pre-conditioning the cabin in hot weather using the Model Y's climate control system and the constant over-the-air software updates, as the Model Y has gotten better the longer he's owned it.

However, Clint regrets not waiting six months and getting the newer Model Y "Juniper" update. He also mentioned that he has been pulled over three times with warnings while driving the Model Y.

Clint's review sparked conversation, with other owners weighing in on his experience. Some Tesla Model Y owners have reported concerns about early battery degradation even at low mileage, adding another layer to the discussion about long-term ownership. Heat and cold can both impact Tesla batteries, raising concerns about degradation in hot climates and presenting challenges in cold climates.

Aram Krajekian, an automotive journalist, covers stories like Clint's almost daily and notes that the Tesla Model Y fits seamlessly into a modern family's routine. Grant Hughes, another Tesla Model Y owner, shared his one-year cost for 12k miles, which was $440 with 50% free, 30% home, and 20% supercharger. In winter weather, charging at 110v in a regular outlet at home can become ineffective in cold weather, as it's mostly used to get batteries warm again.

Tesla ownership is not a one-size-fits-all experience, but across different climates and lifestyles, many owners still come away recommending the car. Clint drives the Model Y every chance he can and only uses a larger vehicle when he needs to haul a ton of stuff and people a long way. He drove the Model Y for 19,000 miles over a year, and his Model Y has a third row option, which he uses with his kids, but it's tiny in the very back and won't do long trips with all three rows utilized.
