Tesla's low-power mode: An exploration of energy-saving features in Tesla vehicles.
Tesla Introduces New Energy Saving Mode with Software Update 2025.32
Tesla has announced the release of a new software update, version 2025.32, which introduces an Energy Saving Mode, also known as Low-Power Mode, for all its models. This innovative feature aims to provide Tesla owners with more control over their car's energy consumption and enhance comfort and range security.
The Energy Saving Mode is designed to reduce energy loss in a Tesla when it is parked. It achieves this by disabling energy-consuming functions like phone chargers, USB ports, low-voltage power outlets, overheating protection, and pre-air conditioning for the cabin. These functions can cost about one percent of battery charge per day in a Tesla, sometimes more.
This new feature offers more flexibility and practicality for Tesla owners. Users can manually set the threshold for the Energy Saving Mode as low as 10%, providing them with greater control over when it activates. The mode can be accessed via the touchscreen menu or the Tesla app through the path "Vehicle", "Charging", and "Energy Saving Mode".
The Energy Saving Mode is a more flexible version of the existing functionality that only turns off these consumers when the "Keep Accessories On" feature is enabled and the remaining battery capacity drops below 20%. This means that users can still use their accessories when they need to, but the Energy Saving Mode will kick in when the battery level is low and the car is parked, reducing energy loss.
The new Energy Saving Mode offers more transparency, explaining what happens when it's turned on or off. This transparency is beneficial for long-term parking situations, such as when a Tesla is left at the airport during a vacation.
Tesla will offer the 2025.32 software update for all its models, including Model 3, Model Y, Model S, Model X, and the Cybertruck in the US. The name of the lead developer who developed this software update has not been publicly disclosed.
With the introduction of the Energy Saving Mode, Tesla continues to push the boundaries of electric vehicle technology, providing innovative solutions to improve energy efficiency and range security for its users.
