Texas Senator Ted Cruz publicly supports Chip Roy's candidacy for Texas Attorney General, stating that Roy is the optimal choice for the position.

In a campaign video, Texas Representative Chip Roy, a Republican, has announced his candidacy for Texas Attorney General. Roy, who has served in the U.S. House since 2019, is known for his unwavering commitment to Texas and his dedication to preserving the state's values.

Roy's decision to run for attorney general comes as the current Texas Attorney General, Ken Paxton, decided not to seek re-election in 2026. Instead, Paxton is running for the U.S. Senate against Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas.

Roy, who was Sen. Ted Cruz's first chief of staff, has been endorsed by Cruz in his bid for attorney general. Cruz and Roy have been friends and allies for over 12 years.

"I want to come home and fight for Texas from Texas as attorney general," said Roy in his campaign video. He expressed a desire to defend Texas against threats to its sovereignty, safety, and way of life. Roy is particularly concerned about Texas being under assault from open-border politicians, radical leftists, and faceless foreign corporations.

Roy's experience as a federal prosecutor and First Assistant Attorney General, coupled with his over 20 years of dedicated service to Texas, make him a formidable contender for the position. He has consistently shown courage, integrity, and conviction in his work, and is known for being a battle-tested warrior and a fierce defender of the Constitution.

Roy has been particularly proud of his work to deliver on President Trump's agenda and fight to drain the swamp. He strives to preserve Texas' legacy of "liberty, freedom, and self-determination."

Several other candidates have also declared their candidacy for Texas Attorney General, including state Sens. Joan Huffman and Mayes Middleton, and former U.S. Assistant Attorney General Aaron Reitz. Reitz has been endorsed by Attorney General Ken Paxton.

As the race for Texas Attorney General heats up, Roy's candidacy offers a strong conservative voice committed to fighting for Texas at every turn.
