Thackeray Criticizes Move After Multi-Billion Mega Project Gets Assigned to Gujarat for Execution
In a recent visit to the Malthan town in Shirur tehsil, Aaditya Thackeray, a former Maharashtra minister, expressed concern over the heavy rainfall-induced crop damage observed in the area. Meanwhile, a political storm is brewing in Maharashtra as the state's development and job opportunities seem to be at the centre of a heated debate.
Thackeray accused the Eknath Shinde-led government of prioritizing personal interests over the state's interests, citing the shifting of several projects, including the Tata-Airbus C-295 transport aircraft manufacturing job, from Maharashtra to Gujarat. Rahul Shewale, a politician, has been vocal about this shift.
The Tata group and Airbus are now collaborating to manufacture C-295 transport aircraft for the Indian Air Force in Vadodara, Gujarat. This move marks the first time an exclusive business will create a military aircraft in India.
The production facility's foundation stone will be laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi this Sunday. Uday Samant, a Shinde loyalist, had earlier claimed that the Tata-Airbus aircraft manufacturing job would be near Nagpur in Maharashtra.
However, Keshav Upadhye, the Maharashtra BJP chief, claimed that the previous MVA government did not communicate with the Union government to promote this project in the state. The BJP legislator Praveen Darekar stated that the offer for the Tata-Airbus project was made a year ago, and the previous government did not take any action on it.
Thackeray has also raised concerns about the state government's lack of support for farmers, stating that large and small jobs used to come to Maharashtra due to its benefits, but today, despite having the merit, these jobs are going to other states. He visited Shirur to inspect the losses farmers have suffered due to heavy rainfalls and urged the state government to quickly introduce a wet drought in the state and provide aid to farmers.
The Uddhav Thackeray-led faction of the Shiv Sena, the NCP, and the Congress have sought to corner the Shinde-BJP government over a 1.54 lakh crore plant that is reportedly going to Gujarat. The blame-game had appeared in Maharashtra last month following the statement that a joint venture semiconductor job of the Indian empire Vedanta and Taiwanese electronics giant Foxconn, proposed to be established near Pune city earlier, would turn up in Gujarat.
Thackeray's visit to farmers in Malthan and his criticism of the Shinde government for not supporting the state's development and for losing opportunities for jobs in Maharashtra have added fuel to the ongoing political debate in the state.
