Thai border sees clandestine entry of 38 job-seeking Cambodians

In a surprising development, thirty-eight Cambodian individuals were arrested in Sa Kaeo province, Thailand early on Saturday morning. The group was apprehended in Aranyaprathet district, specifically in a sugarcane field in tambon Phan Suk, located approximately two kilometers away from the Thai-Cambodian border.

According to reports, the Cambodian group was spotted by a Burapha Task Force unit at 7am. The individuals were fleeing hardships in their home country and stated they entered Thailand in search of employment. The group consisted of 20 men, 17 women, and one girl, who were all carrying backpacks.

Following the arrest, the Sa Kaeo Immigration office will be responsible for the repatriation of the detainees. The authorities have transferred the detainees to Ranger Company 1204 for further questioning, but no further information about their legal status or destination in Thailand has been provided.

The Cambodian group stated they experienced extreme economic hardship and insufficient income in their hometown, leading them to make the dangerous journey to Thailand.
