The city of Greifswald unveils its historical landmarks on September 14, 2025
On September 14, 2025, the historic city of Greifswald will open its doors to the public for a day of exploration and discovery. The event, themed "WERT-Voll" (Value Full), invites visitors to uncover hidden treasures and new stories.
The day will kick off with a city tour focusing on women in Greifswald's history and cityscape, led by knowledgeable guides. The tour will start at Greifswald-Information at 10:00 AM. At the same time, historian André Lutze will give a lecture on "775 Years of Greifswald: Buildings from the Founding Century in the Old Town" at the Town Hall.
Frieda Stundl-Pietschmann, who significantly influenced Pomeranian fisherman's carpets, will be offered a tour at 2:00 PM. The meeting point for this tour is the Town Hall. A suitable walking tour through the Old Town will follow at 12:30 PM, also starting from the Town Hall.
The University of Greifswald will also participate in the event. The Old University Library and the Historical Greenhouses of the Botanical Garden will be open for tours. Visitors can also explore the Eldena Windmill interior during the day.
Historical ships can be viewed at the Museum Harbor, and interesting facts about the Ladebow Airport Settlement can be learned. For those with a creative flair, linocut postcards can be printed at the courtyard café.
In the afternoon, an exhibition "Said-Done" about Pomeranian legends will be open for viewing, with two readings scheduled. At 6:00 PM, André Lutze will give a lecture "What Ruins Can Tell Us" during a walk through the Eldena Monastery Park, tracing the monastery's architectural development up to Greifswald's founding in 1250.
The Pomeranian State Museum, the Caspar-David-Friedrich Center, the churches of St. Nikolai, St. Marien, and St. Jacobi, as well as the Kultur- und Initiativenhaus STRAZE, will participate with various events throughout the day.
From 2:00 to 6:00 PM, the Soziokulturelles Zentrum St. Spiritus will open its courtyard café, providing a perfect spot to rest and reflect on the day's discoveries.
