In two separate incidents over the weekend, drivers in the eastern part of Germany were charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Meanwhile, an e-scooter was stolen in Wittmund and later found damaged in an accident.
On Saturday evening at 8:05 PM, a 66-year-old driver from Blomberg was arrested for drunk driving on Wallinghauser Straße in Aurich. A breathalyzer test revealed a blood alcohol level of 1.5, significantly over the legal limit.
Earlier on Saturday morning around 9:00 AM, a traffic accident occurred on Georgsheiler Weg in South Brokmerland. The accident involved a 55-year-old man on an e-bike and a 39-year-old man who had just left a nearby property's driveway. Due to her impaired driving, a criminal investigation was initiated, and a blood sample was taken.
In a more serious incident on Sunday morning at 2:15 AM, a 22-year-old man was driving under the influence of alcohol on Osterhuser Straße in Loppersum. A breathalyzer test showed a reading of 0.9, and the driver's licence was confiscated. The man's car damaged a streetlight and came to a stop just before a tree on the bike path of Georgsheiler Weg. Fortunately, both cyclists involved in the accident were only slightly injured. The 22-year-old man was uninjured and called the police himself.
The Aurich/Wittmund Police Station, located in the former Aurich District, has requested anyone with information about these incidents to contact them.
In a separate incident, an e-scooter was stolen from Wallstraße in Wittmund on Friday evening between 8:30 PM and 9:00 PM. The stolen e-scooter is of the brand Extreme VMAX VX2, and it was later found locked to the rear wall of multi-family house number 41 in Wittmund. The police are asking for any information that may help in their investigation.
