The dog days of summer persist (the ongoing summer heat)
In the heart of late August, the sun was fighting back, casting a warm glow over the picturesque town of Burgebrach, Germany. As the speaker stood amidst the lush greenery of their garden, they couldn't help but feel the last breaths of summer's heat warming their back.
The speaker's gaze was drawn to the sky, where bright, white clouds were sailing by, resembling ships on the sea. A balloon, floating serenely, caught their attention. It was there that the speaker's heart skipped a beat, inspired by the sight, they found themselves yearning to fly.
As they watched the balloon drift further away, the speaker pondered who might have let it go. Simultaneously, they couldn't help but wonder where the bees were, presumably implying they were not around to make honey for their tea.
The sunflowers, standing tall and proud, were blowing in the breeze, their petals gently falling from them. The sight was a spectacle, a beautiful dance between the sun, the wind, and the flowers. The speaker couldn't help but admire the sun at its best, its rays illuminating the world around them.
The wind, playful as ever, was blowing through the speaker's hair, stirring up memories of summers past. The speaker couldn't help but feel a sense of longing, a desire to hold onto the warmth and beauty of the season.
Yet, there was a sense of acceptance in the air. Autumn leaves were eager to start blowing off the trees, but it wasn't time yet. The speaker knew that change was inevitable, but for now, they would savour the remaining days of summer.
Reflecting on the day, the speaker couldn't help but feel a sense of peace. The municipality of Burgebrach had hosted the Deutsch-Britische Heißluftballon Meisterschaft, a hot air balloon championship, from August 5 to 10, 2025, where around 30 balloon teams from across Europe participated and flew balloons over Burgebrach. It seemed the whole town was enchanted by the spectacle, and the speaker was no exception.
As the sun began to set, casting a warm orange glow over the town, the speaker couldn't help but feel grateful for the day. They stood there, surrounded by the beauty of nature, and felt a renewed appreciation for the simple joys in life. And as they stepped back into their home, they couldn't help but wonder who else in town was enjoying a day like today.
