Franz Kafka, the universal Czech writer, was born in Prague in 1883. His writings marked a significant milestone in world literature, with works such as "The Metamorphosis", "The Castle", and "The Trial" leaving an indelible mark on the literary landscape.

Despite feeling small and trapped, Kafka desired freedom. This desire is evident in his writings, which often remained as fragments, revealing a time of contradiction and truth. Kafka struggled with the dilemma between his mind and reality, between reason and his sensitivity to the world. He attempted to resolve this dilemma through writing.

In a bid to commemorate the centennial of Kafka's death, Documentos RNE, a broadcast that airs on Fridays from 11 p.m. to midnight on Radio Nacional, has decided to dedicate a program to him. The documentary, titled "Franz Kafka, the Insect in the Castle", is produced by Alfredo Lain.

The documentary features discussions about Kafka's work and life, with different specialists in literature and philology contributing to the programme. Enrique Vila-Matas, Alfonso Levi, Cecilia Dreymüller, and Adam Kovacsics are some of the specialists involved. Alfredo Lain explores different perspectives on Kafka's personality in the documentary.

Kafka's personal life was as complex as his writings. He had a passionate love affair with writer Milena Jesenská, which also remained unfinished, much like most of his relationships. Kafka once wrote to his fiancée, Felice Bauer, "I consist in literature."

The documentary "Franz Kafka, the Insect in the Castle" is a must-watch for anyone interested in Kafka's life and work. It offers a unique insight into the mind of a man who, despite his struggles, found freedom in his books.
