The Foggy Few group is commemorating its anniversary.

The Irish-Folk band, The Foggy Few, is set to celebrate its 25th anniversary at Saal Bohne in Rahden on September 6, 2025. The celebration, aptly named "25 Years of Foggys", will commence at 7:30 PM, with doors opening at 6:30 PM.

The band's journey began exactly a quarter of a century ago, on September 7, 2000, at the Hotel Bohne, where the initial gathering, known as the Rahdener Folk Session, took place. Arndt Hoppe, a new resident of Rahden, initiated the formation of the band by placing a newspaper ad.

Thomas Koch, an experienced musician, attended the first gathering and was captivated by Irish music. He learned to play the tin whistle and bodhrán that very night. Svenja Puetzschler and Nadja Radicke (now Ordelheide) joined the band in 2010, adding tin whistle, bodhrán, mandolin, and bass to the band's sound.

Jos van Assema joined the band shortly after its formation, and the trio of Koch, van Assema, and Silvia Meier (the first singer) performed as The New Foggy Few from 2005. Heinz Schomacker, an experienced stage musician, joined the band in 2019, enriching it with his accordion playing and voice.

Over the years, the band's repertoire has grown to include songs from the past 25 years and new titles. The anniversary celebration will feature a mix of old favourites and fresh tunes.

The concert is not just a party but also a fundraiser for a good cause. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to a charitable organisation. Tickets for the event are available for €18 in advance from the Fontane Apotheke in Rahden.

The Rahdener Folk Session, the band's roots, was based on the Irish tradition of casual music-making and communal enjoyment. This tradition continues to be the heart of The Foggy Few's music, bringing people together through the power of Irish-Folk.

Thomas Koch, who has seldom missed a Thursday session in the past 25 years, will undoubtedly be in attendance, ensuring that the spirit of the Rahdener Folk Session lives on. The seating arrangement at the event ensures that no one will have to go home thirsty during the evening.

Join The Foggy Few as they celebrate a quarter of a century of Irish-Folk music at Saal Bohne, Rahden. It's a night not to be missed!
