"The introduced AI-enabled smartphone allows AI to be accessible to the general public"
The tech world is abuzz with news from Deutsche Telekom, as the company experiences two significant data breaches and introduces its latest AI-powered devices.
In a concerning turn of events, hackers have allegedly stolen 64 million data sets from T-Mobile, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom. The attackers published the data on a popular data leak forum, claiming that all the data sets are from June 1, 2025. The exposed instance contained over 324 million log entries, amounting to 729 GB of data. Not all data affected by the data breach was sensitive, but some user data was exposed, including IP addresses, MAC addresses, session IDs, customer IDs, user agents, and more.
The data breaches at Deutsche Telekom have potentially exposed sensitive user information, including full names, dates of birth, tax IDs, full addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, device IDs, cookie IDs, and IP addresses. This incident is a significant concern for user privacy and data security.
Amidst these challenges, Deutsche Telekom has taken a proactive step by introducing an AI smartphone, the T Phone 3. The device, which carries the #GreenMagenta label and boasts an excellent rating of 90/100 in the Eco Rating for smartphones, is available at a one-time price of 149 € in Germany and nine other countries. The T Phone 3 comes with an integrated AI companion, Perplexity Assistant, which can be activated with a magenta button. Perplexity Assistant can function as a personal secretary, language genius, exclusive travel agent, nutrition coach and trainer, shopping expert, entertainer, tutor, and more.
Deutsche Telekom has also launched the T Tablet 2, priced at 199 €. When purchased with a tariff, both devices cost just one euro each. The T Tablet 2 is a good example of the circular economy, with 75% of its back made from recycled plastic.
In the development of these AI-powered devices, Deutsche Telekom has collaborated with the American AI company, Perplexity. Perplexity delivers the AI-based speech assistant and controls the user interface. Perplexity Assistant is similar to competitor products like ChatGPT by OpenAI or Claude by Anthropic.
The AI smartphone and AI tablet are the latest models in the T Phone series and T Tablet series respectively. They will be available starting August 14, 2025, and can be obtained through customer service, online at telekom.de, in the Telekom Shop, and in specialized retail stores.
In a separate incident, Deutsche Telekom's MagentaTV service also experienced a data leak that affected millions of users. This adds to the concerns surrounding user privacy and data security at the company.
As Deutsche Telekom navigates these challenges, it continues to push the boundaries of technology with its innovative AI devices. However, the company must also address the data breaches and ensure the security of its users' personal information moving forward.
