Tour de France: Jonas Vingegaard and Joao Almeida's Battle Continues

The 13th stage of the Tour de France was a memorable one for UAE Emirates-XRG's leader, Jonas Vingegaard, who described it as one of the most beautiful days of his career. Despite Vingegaard's impressive performance, his Dutch counterparts, led by Visma-Lease, maintain a small cushion and a high level of form, which should help them reach Madrid.

The stage took place on the challenging Angliru, a climb that tested the riders' endurance and skill. The steepest slopes of the Angliru tormented the race vehicles, with the smell of burning indicating the intense effort required. Unfortunately, the stage saw several high-profile dropouts, including Tom Pidcock, Felix Gall, Giulio Ciccone, Giulio Pellizzari, and Egan Bernal.

Vingegaard was unable to shake off the rider Joao Almeida throughout the stage. Almeida, the second overall leader in the Vuelta a España who raced this week at Angliru, animated the final stage at the front and secured a stage victory. As a result, he has taken over the lead in the Tour de France from Vingegaard.

However, Vingegaard remains in the overall lead, with a slim margin of 46 seconds separating him from Almeida. The final rivalry between the two will renew this Saturday on La Farrapona.

Marco Marcato, the sports director of UAE Emirates-XRG, expressed increased confidence in his team following the 13th stage. He admitted that Vingegaard is strong, but UAE has even more confidence in themselves after the stage. The Angliru served UAE's interests by cleaning up at the top of the general classification, with no other major contenders managing to gain significant time on Vingegaard.

The Vuelta a España has already been a success for UAE, with six stage wins to their name. Marcato believes that their strong performance in the Tour de France is a testament to their team's depth and the hard work they have put in throughout the season.

Despite Visma-Lease's leader never feeling at his best during the 13th stage, the team remains a formidable threat in the overall standings. A near-accident involving a dog with a chair attached to its leash occurred during the stage, potentially affecting the escapees. However, the 13th stage did not separate the leaders Jonas Vingegaard and UAE Emirates-XRG's leader, setting the stage for an exciting final week of racing. The race to Madrid promises to be a thrilling one, with both Vingegaard and Almeida determined to claim victory.
