The possibility of the "red orb"

The iconic "Red Ball" sculpture in the city of Detmold has found itself at the centre of a recent incident, but it seems that a new beginning is on the horizon.

The sculpture, created by artist Gabriele Staarmann and installed in 2002, gained nationwide attention due to its viral internet presence after it was intentionally released from its securing on the night of May 10 to 11. The "Red Ball", weighing approximately 2 tons and boasting a diameter of 4.50 meters, ended up on the right side of the Nordring street without causing any significant further damage. However, the incident could have potentially posed life-threatening danger for users of the Nordring.

The "Red Ball" was damaged by a storm on April 2, with tears at two points. After being secured on May 11, the sculpture was taken to the city's building yard.

Following the incident, artist Gabriele Staarmann and Mayor Frank Hilker have agreed to rebuild the "Red Ball" artwork at a new location. In a unique collaboration, Staarmann is planning a new project related to the "Red Ball" in conjunction with Mayor Hilker. New ideas and concepts for the new installation will be developed together, with the pylons that held the "Red Ball" at the Richthofenstraße roundabout receiving a new installation at their original location.

In addition, new ideas and concepts for the new installation of the pylons at the Richthofenstraße roundabout will be developed. This action marks a new chapter for the "Red Ball", which has come to symbolize a new beginning, just as it did in its first installation in 2002.
