The heads behind the musical "Romeo & Juliet - Love is Everything," Peter Plate and composer Ulf Leo Sommer, have announced a tour for the popular production in 2026. The tour will span across several German cities, Austria (Vienna), and Switzerland (Zürich).
The musical, which premiered in Berlin in March 2023, has already captivated over 400,000 spectators in the city. It will still be shown in Berlin until the end of February 2026, providing Berliners with one last chance to witness this modern take on the classic tragedy by William Shakespeare.
The production is a unique blend of the German translation by August Schlegel and a fusion of pop songs and arias. The work of the pop duo Rosenstolz, to which Plate once belonged, plays a major role in the musical. Notable songs like "Love is Everything" and "How Far is Gone" are prominently featured.
Ulf Leo Sommer stated that the themes of love, sex, and death are prevalent in "Romeo & Juliet," and this is certainly reflected in the musical. Peter Plate expressed that writing the musical was a privilege as it allowed them to feel like teenagers again.
Fans have gathered at performances of "Romeo & Juliet - Love is Everything" to remember Anna R., a member of Rosenstolz, for whom a memorial site was created at the Theater des Westens. Plate expressed a hope that spectators who liked Rosenstolz would think of Anna R. when they hear songs like "Love is Everything" and "How Far is Gone" during the tour.
The tour will kick off in Cologne in August 2026, with guest performances planned in Düsseldorf, Munich, Duisburg, Baden-Baden, Bremen, and Frankfurt. The premiere of the musical tour in Vienna, Austria is scheduled for 2027, with performances running from January 27 to February 7 at MuseumsQuartier Wien (Halle E).
