Maddocks, a committed creator of marketable assets for bands, artists, and companies, first made his mark at Warner Records in 1999. His arrival at the label coincided with a particularly fruitful period for album artwork. One of his earliest projects was the design of the album sleeve for Deftones' third LP, White Pony, which was signed to sister label Maverick Records.

White Pony, released in 2000, stood apart from the visual clutter of the era with its sleek minimalism. Maddocks' unconventional approach, which included using colorful pop art filters, was met with surprise and appreciation. This collaboration with Deftones has continued since, spanning every record since, including their tenth LP, Private Music.

A creative short-hand has developed between Maddocks and Deftones' frontman, Chino Moreno. This synergy is evident in the album covers they've created together, such as the vivid, Warhol-esque treatment on Alanis Morissette's fifth studio album, Under Rug Swept, and the merchandise and mainstage backdrop designs.

Maddocks' body of work also includes designs for various acts at Warner Records, such as Linkin Park and some of the world's biggest pop acts. His credits include Linkin Park's debut LP Hybrid Theory, released in 2000.

The modern album cover serves multiple purposes, making it challenging to create a single image that can cater to all needs. However, Maddocks balances utility and purpose with artistry and creative expression in his work. The album sleeve remains an integral part of an album's identity, despite changes in format and visibility.

The ongoing vinyl revival has restored some of the tactility and scale that designers may have once taken for granted. This resurgence has seen some of Maddocks' designs being displayed as posters, regardless of their familiarity with the music.

As Maddocks continues to express his interest in working on Deftones' follow-up album to their 1997 album 'Around The Fur', fans eagerly anticipate what innovative and iconic designs he will bring to the table next.
