The Transformation of Used Car Tires: Insights Explored

In a significant move towards a greener future, Hertz Corporation has teamed up with Liberty Tire Recycling, the largest tire recycling company in North America. This partnership marks the first national tire recycling campaign for Hertz and the car rental industry as a whole.

Liberty Tire Recycling, which recycles more than a third of the tires discarded in the United States each year, approximately 110 million annually, will be responsible for sustainably recycling approximately 160,000 rubber tires from the Hertz fleet annually.

The recycled rubber will be used to produce a variety of eco-friendly products. Rubberized asphalt, for instance, lasts longer than regular asphalt, requires less natural resources, and makes for a quieter ride. Approximately 8,000 tires are used per mile, per lane to make rubberized asphalt. This innovative material is not only environmentally friendly but also offers improved road durability.

Other products to be produced include rubber mulch, a non-allergenic, mold-free alternative to wood mulch that lasts longer. Rubber safety mats and pads, on the other hand, reduce the risk of injuries in outdoor play areas for children.

Another eco-friendly application of recycled rubber is in railroad crossties. These ties made from recycled tires eliminate the necessity of cutting down trees and the use of toxic preservatives, making them a greener solution.

Hertz's commitment to sustainability doesn't stop at tire recycling. The corporation has also partnered with electric charging operator Zem2All to put more sustainable vehicles on city streets in Spain. This partnership aims to provide customers and cities with first-hand experience with electric vehicles.

The disposal of old tires in environmentally friendly ways is crucial for a greener future. Besides recycling, reusing, and upcycling, these tires can be converted into useful products such as rubber mulch, safety mats, railroad ties, and asphalt.

In conclusion, the partnership between Hertz Corporation and Liberty Tire Recycling is a significant step forward in promoting sustainable practices within the car rental industry and contributing to a greener future through eco-friendly innovations.
