Third installment of the Dune saga unfolds.
In the vast and ever-changing dunes of a distant planet, the epic saga of Dune continues with the upcoming release of Dune: Part Three. Twelve years have passed since Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) became the ruler of the universe and was revered as the prophet and god Muad'Dib. Now, he finds himself embroiled in a new battle against rivals and conspirators.
Denis Villeneuve, who delivered an artistically adequate interpretation of Frank Herbert's Dune, returns as the director for this final trip to the desert planet. He will be joined by Jon Spaihts, who will co-write the screenplay with Villeneuve, as they bring Frank Herbert's novel Dune Messiah to life on the silver screen.
The cast of Dune: Part Three features a host of familiar faces, including Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Zendaya as Fremen Chani Kynes, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, and Christopher Walken in an undisclosed role.
A new character will make an appearance in Dune: Part Three - Scytale, a master of shapeshifters, played by Robert Pattinson. Pattinson is in talks for the role, and his casting has been widely reported during production in 2025.
Hans Zimmer, who composed the music for the first two films, will once again lend his talents to Dune: Part Three. Linus Sandgren will replace Greig Fraser as the cinematographer for the third instalment.
Filming for Dune: Part Three has been underway since July, and the production has been a success, as evidenced by the release of Dune and its sequel, Dune: Part Two, which were both commercially very successful.
The image released by Legendary Pictures for Dune: Part Three depicts a desert landscape, presumably the desert planet, with a quote from Dune Messiah accompanying it. Dune: Part Three is set to release in German cinemas on December 17, 2026.
Nakoa-Wolf Momoa, son of Jason Momoa, and Ida Brooke will join the cast as Paul Atreides and Chani's twin children. This will be Villeneuve's last trip to the desert planet as director, making Dune: Part Three a fitting conclusion to the Dune franchise.
