In the heart of Düsseldorf, a city proud of its rich sports heritage, a new landmark has been unveiled. The city's favourite son, table tennis icon Timo Boll, has been honoured with a table tennis table in the city's Hofgarten, adorned with his likeness and a list of his numerous achievements.

Mayor Stephan Keller expressed his delight at the occasion, praising Boll's fair play and down-to-earth nature. "Timo Boll is not just a sports legend, but also a role model for young athletes," Keller said. "His dedication, sportsmanship, and humility are qualities we should all aspire to."

The table tennis table's inauguration is not Timo Boll's final farewell. The 42-year-old remains in Düsseldorf as a representative and partner, continuing to inspire the city's youth and contributing to the sport's growth.

Boll's career in table tennis began modestly, on an outdoor table tennis table at a playground. His passion and talent quickly shone through, leading him to become one of the world's most successful table tennis players.

Over the course of his illustrious career, Boll has won an impressive 14 league championships, 20 European Championship titles, and 11 cup victories. He has also participated in an unprecedented seven Olympic Games as a member of the Düsseldorf sports team, bringing home multiple medals.

Boll's achievements at the World Championships are equally impressive, with multiple medals to his name. His most significant success came in 2017, when he won the World Championship in Düsseldorf, a moment he described as the "highlight of his career."

Perhaps Boll's most notable achievements, however, are his five Champions League trophies with Borussia Düsseldorf. These victories cemented his place in the annals of table tennis history, making him one of the most decorated players in the sport.

Boll felt deeply honoured about the table tennis table being inaugurated in his honour. "I am grateful for this recognition from my hometown," he said. "I hope that this table will inspire the next generation of table tennis players and encourage them to pursue their dreams."

In addition to his role in Düsseldorf, Boll is a member of D.Sports' Olympic support teams for the Summer Games in Beijing (2008), London (2012), Rio de Janeiro (2016), Tokyo (2021), and Paris (2024). His experience and expertise will undoubtedly be invaluable in guiding the city's athletes towards success in future Olympics.

As Boll continues to contribute to the sport he loves, it is clear that his legacy will endure in Düsseldorf for many years to come. The table tennis table in Hofgarten serves as a testament to his achievements and a reminder of the city's proud sporting history.
