Three hikers who plummeted from a Canadian waterfall are now believed to have perished, as rescuers discover a second deceased individual.
In the picturesque landscape of Meachen Creek Falls in the East Kootenays, British Columbia, a search and rescue mission unfolded on September 1, 2023, following an SOS signal from a GPS device.
The incident claimed the lives of two hikers, a 35-year-old woman and a 68-year-old woman, whose bodies were discovered on the same day. The 68-year-old woman's body was found halfway down the falls, while the body of the 35-year-old woman was located later in the day.
On September 3, the bodies of both women were retrieved. The Kimberley RCMP confirmed the discovery of the second deceased hiker in a statement on the same day.
The 35-year-old man who was hiking with the two deceased women remains missing. It is presumed that he is deceased, but efforts are ongoing to locate and recover him.
The search and rescue operation involved the use of a drone, police dogs, and two Big Horn helicopters. Despite the extensive efforts, no information about the missing man has been found in the search results provided.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and none of the deaths are believed to be suspicious. The authorities are working diligently to provide answers and bring closure to the families affected by this tragic event.
