Three individuals without valid licenses, one of whom was intoxicated, were apprehended by the PSP on the 25th of April Bridge.
The Portuguese Public Security Police (PSP) carried out a surveillance operation on Lisbon's iconic 25 de Abril Bridge between 17:00 and 21:00, as a response to the high volume of traffic caused by returning national tourists.
The operation, aimed at "increasing road safety", resulted in a total of 39 traffic violations being issued. Twelve of these were for failure to undergo mandatory periodic inspection, six were for lack of a child safety retention system, and six were for lack of documents.
Four violations were for vehicle characteristic alterations, while two people were detained for driving without a license. The remaining violations were for lack of insurance, use of mobile phones while driving, lack of seat belts, expired driver's license, excess number of passengers, and excess alcohol.
Subintendent Sérgio Soares, the PSP's spokesperson, explained to the news agency Lusa that the increased surveillance was necessary due to the high volume of vehicles on the bridge. However, the name of the spokesperson who provided this information to Lusa could not be confirmed in the available search results.
Two vehicles were seized during the operation, and one person was detained for driving under the influence. The PSP's operation on the 25 de Abril Bridge is part of their ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of road users amidst the increased traffic caused by the return of national tourists.
