The picturesque Elbe valley, stretching from Diesbar-Seußlitz to Dresden-Pillnitz, will once again play host to the 26th edition of the Open Wine Estate Days. From September 12 to September 21, 2025, wine enthusiasts can immerse themselves in the rich history and contemporary charm of Saxony's wineries.

This year, over 50 businesses will participate, including Schloss Wackerbarth, Proschwitz Prinz zur Lippe, Hoflößnitz, and numerous small wine taverns. Some wineries will open their doors exclusively for this event.

The Saxon State Foundation for Nature and the Environment, including its vineyard on the Meissen Castle Hill, will also be part of the festivities. Visitors can expect a journey from the grapevine to the finished wine, showcasing centuries-old wine-growing traditions in Saxony.

Approximately 500 hectares of vineyards are cultivated in Saxony, with about 20 percent dedicated to red wines. The main grape varieties include Müller-Thurgau, Riesling, Weißburgunder, Grauburgunder, Traminer, Spätburgunder, and Dornfelder.

The State Winery Schloss Wackerbarth offers insights into its sparkling wine production, while the Meißen Winery Cooperative boasts a full concert programme. The Hoflößnitz winery presses biodynamic wine into traditional 'Schieler' – a mix of red and white grape juice.

The programme includes wine tastings, vineyard and cellar tours, culinary extras, live music, and art exhibitions. To make travel between winemakers convenient, a shuttle bus service and two special lines running every 20 minutes are available.

Sindy Vogel, managing director of the Elbland Dresden tourism association, has reported that many venues are full, and some tours are overbooked. Despite the popularity of the event, the weather during the Open Wine Estate Days is not too hot and not too cold, promising a comfortable experience for all.

The Open Wine Estate Days in Saxony is more than just a wine tasting event; it's a celebration of Saxony's wine-growing heritage and a unique opportunity to explore the region's wineries and vineyards. So, mark your calendars and get ready to raise a glass to Saxony's wine culture!
