Timeless masterpieces to perform at the Aspendos stage, a global platform
The 32nd International Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival is set to enchant audiences in Antalya, Turkey, from September 14 to October 1. This year's festival promises an extraordinary lineup of operas and ballets, all staged at the ancient and awe-inspiring Aspendos Theater.
The festival will commence on September 14 with Giacomo Puccini's opera "Turandot" at 9 p.m. The production is co-produced by the Ankara and Antalya State Opera and Ballet directorates, and is directed by Vincenza Grisostomi Travaglini. The conductor for this performance is yet to be publicly specified. Olga Maslova and Riccardo Massi will perform the lead roles in "Turandot".
On September 17, the Ankara State Opera and Ballet will present Mikis Theodorakis' "Zorba" ballet. The following day, the festival continues with Ludwig Minkus' "Don Quixote", staged by the Antalya State Opera and Ballet. G. Armaghan Davran and Ayshe Fidanlik have restaged "Don Quixote", and Marius Petipa's choreography will be featured in this production.
The Antalya State Opera and Ballet will also present Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake" on September 20, and Giuseppe Verdi's "La Traviata" on September 27. Konstantin Kamynin will direct "La Traviata", and Viacheslav Shernukho-Volich will conduct the performance.
The Istanbul State Opera and Ballet will close the festival on October 1 with their performance of "Swan Lake" under the baton of conductor Ibrahim Yazici.
Notable performances include Mahir Seyrek providing choral direction for "Tosca", and Hakan Kalkan conducting "Don Quixote". Nurdan KucekEkmekci and international guest tenor Ivan Magriny will perform in "Tosca".
The festival's lineup also includes three ballets - "Turandot", "Zorba", and "Don Quixote" - and three operas - "Tosca", "Swan Lake", and "La Traviata". The ensemble from Ali-Shir Nevai State Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater, renowned for its innovative approach to classical works, will perform "La Traviata".
