2025 Vuelta a España: Juan Ayuso Wins Stage 12, Vingegaard Holds Lead
The 80th edition of the Vuelta a España is in full swing, with riders battling it out across France, Andorra, and Spain. The latest stage, a medium mountain stage from Laredo to Los Corrales de Buelna, saw Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates) claim victory, 13 seconds ahead of Brieuc Rolland and Javier Romo.
Ayuso's triumph marked his first win in this year's race, while Rolland's third-place finish maintains his position as a strong contender. Romo, a member of the Movistar Team, finished second, continuing his impressive performance in the competition.
The queen stage of the 2025 Vuelta a España will take place on Friday, featuring the final climb up the brutal Alto de L'Angliru. The specific list of riders competing on this stage has not yet been officially announced.
Vingegaard, the clear favourite to wear the red jersey in Madrid on September 14, maintained his position in the general classification. The Danish rider reclaimed the red jersey on Tuesday and has been consistently performing well throughout the competition.
Torstein Træen, Norwegian of the Team Bahrain Victorious, was the previous leader of the competition but has since been overtaken by Vingegaard. The individual time trial in Valladolid, scheduled for September 11, will be a crucial stage, three days before the end of the competition.
The route for this time trial is a completely urban 27.2-kilometer route, with Valladolid hosting the only individual time trial of La Vuelta Ciclista a España 2025. The start of the 2025 Vuelta a España was in Italy, and Madrid, the southernmost point of the route, will be the final destination.
