Top 10 Most Secure Countries Globally
Iceland Remains the World's Most Peaceful Nation in 2025
In the latest Global Peace Index report for 2025, Iceland continues to lead the pack, maintaining its position as the world's most peaceful country for the 18th consecutive year. The Nordic nation excels across all three domains: safety and security, ongoing conflict, and militarization.
Following closely behind is Ireland, which has moved up to the second position. The emerald isle's ascension can be attributed to its unwavering commitment to peace, despite conflicts in the late 20th Century. Ireland, like Austria, has a constitutionally mandated policy of neutrality, preventing it from joining military alliances like NATO. Austria, ranked fourth in the index, has slipped one place this year but remains high across all domains.
New Zealand has made significant strides, moving up two spots to number three. The country's improvement is largely due to improvements in the safety and security domain and fewer demonstrations and terrorism-related impacts. Singapore, renowned for its stability and order, is ranked sixth, while Switzerland, known for its neutrality, is fifth.
Portugal and Denmark round out the top seven and eight spots, respectively. Portugal's ranking is a testament to the country's efforts towards peace and stability, while Denmark's position is a reflection of its low levels of militarisation and high levels of peacefulness. Slovenia and Finland complete the Top 10, with Slovenia ranked ninth and Finland tenth.
The countries listed among the Top 10 achieved this ranking in the year 2025 itself. This means that Iceland has been leading since 2008 and remains the safest country in 2025. The Global Peace Index is a comprehensive report that measures the peacefulness of countries and regions around the world, providing valuable insights into global peace and stability.
