As the summer break comes to an end in four federal states, including Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern this weekend, the Automobile Association (ADAC) is warning of heavy traffic on several highways and coastal roads.

The ADAC expects increased traffic, particularly from returning summer holiday travelers, late vacationers, and weekend excursionists. This influx of drivers is likely to cause traffic chaos on several highways, including routes to the North and Baltic Sea, and major motorways such as the A1 and A7.

In the greater Hamburg area, delays are expected at the Horster Triangle, in the Elbtunnel, and on the Elb bridges. Meanwhile, in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, traffic on coastal roads and transitions is anticipated to be heavy throughout the weekend. The ADAC's warning applies to the A20 and A24 in particular on the coastal roads of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

On Friday afternoon and Saturday, the A20 and A24 are expected to be full in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Traffic jams are also expected on the highways A1, A7, A21, and A23 in Schleswig-Holstein.

Maintenance work on the Norderelb bridge is currently underway, causing traffic to be reduced to 60 km/h there. It is recommended to plan for longer wait times, especially at the bridge to and from Usedom in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

To avoid traffic jams, the ADAC recommends traveling at off-peak times or during early or late hours. By doing so, you can ensure a smoother journey and enjoy your travels without unnecessary delays.
