Toyota Revamps its Compact Sedan with GR Sport Hybrid Enhancements
Toyota Yaris Ativ HEV Makes a Splash in Thailand
Toyota has expanded its lineup in Thailand with the introduction of the Yaris Ativ HEV, a hybrid version of the popular small sedan. The new model promises impressive fuel efficiency, with an estimated return of 69 MPG.
The Yaris Ativ HEV is built in Thailand and will be exported to 23 markets, primarily across Southeast Asia. In Thailand, the hybrid version is the most affordable option in Toyota's electrified lineup, starting at 719,000 baht ($22,200) for the Premium and 769,000 baht ($23,800) for the GR Sport. The non-hybrid version of the Yaris Ativ starts at 549,000 baht ($17,000).
The GR Sport trim, a new addition to the Yaris Ativ lineup, is available in three colours: Platinum White Pearl, Red Mica Metallic, or Attitude Black Mica. This trim features a custom bodykit and handling upgrades, giving the car an aggressive look with larger intakes, deeper side skirts, a rear diffuser, and a black spoiler. The GR Sport trim also comes with 17-inch alloy wheels and black accents for the roof and mirror caps.
The hybrid powertrain in the Yaris Ativ is borrowed from the Yaris and Yaris Cross, producing a combined 110 hp. The hybrid version of the Yaris Ativ carries a premium over the entry-level petrol version, but Toyota aims to attract budget-conscious buyers with this new offering.
The market in Thailand is changing, with Japanese automakers losing ground to Chinese newcomers. Toyota still leads the market with 38 percent, despite a recent decline. The company is responding to this shift by offering more affordable electrified options such as the Yaris Ativ HEV.
The GR Sport accessory package for the Yaris Ativ HEV costs 28,990 baht ($900), while the optional Charismo Drift package costs 19,990 baht ($620).
The Yaris Ativ, also known as the Vios in some markets, is a small sedan that has been a staple in Toyota's lineup. With the addition of the GR Sport trim and the hybrid powertrain, the Yaris Ativ is poised to continue its success in Thailand and beyond.
