In the early hours of September 5, 2025, a significant traffic incident took place in Lübeck-Buntekuh. A tanker truck, travelling on Bundesautobahn 1 from Hamburg, lost its semi-trailer at the Moisling interchange. Fortunately, the loaded diesel semi-trailer came to rest on the intersection and did not spill any diesel, preventing a potential environmental disaster.
The accident occurred around 21:45 when a 40-year-old man driving the tractor unit exited the motorway. As he tried to turn left onto the Padeluffer Weg, the trailer detached from the tractor unit.
Immediately after the incident, emergency services were called to the scene. A specialized company arrived around 01:15 to pump out the diesel from the trailer on-site, ensuring no hazardous materials were spilled.
Around 03:00, a crane was called in to lift the trailer so that the combination could be re-coupled. The reassembled combination was then escorted by the police to a nearby industrial area.
An administrative offense procedure has been initiated by the police, with the Hamburg driver suspected of violations of regulations regarding trailer couplings and cleaning regulations on the Moisling highway section near Hamburg. The name of the driver has not been publicly disclosed.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to traffic regulations, particularly when it comes to the safety of heavy goods vehicles. It is crucial that drivers ensure their trailers are securely attached and well-maintained to prevent such incidents from occurring.
The tanker truck and its trailer were eventually removed from the intersection, bringing an end to the incident and ensuring the smooth flow of traffic in the area once more.
