Traffic Chaos in Leonberg, BAB 8 Due to Overturned Truck Accident

On June 24, 2025, a severe accident involving a semi-trailer truck occurred on the BAB 8 between Leonberg motorway interchange and Leonberg-West exit. The incident led to a closure of the connection of the BAB 81 from Heilbronn towards Karlsruhe from 14:15 PM to 16:20 PM, causing significant traffic disruptions on the BAB 8, surrounding federal motorways, and local detour routes.

The accident resulted in an unknown amount of fuel seeping into the ground due to a ruptured tank. The Ludwigsburg Traffic Police Inspectorate has taken over the investigation of the accident, involving the Ludwigsburg police, who have also engaged an expert (Sachverständiger) to clarify the cause of the accident.

The driver of the semi-trailer truck, aged 65, sustained severe injuries and was taken to a hospital. The recovery of the semi-trailer truck and its cargo, which consisted of several rolls of paper, each weighing approximately 1.4 tons, took place between 12:30 PM and 15:45 PM.

The hard shoulder and the right lane remain closed for the ongoing recovery of the semi-trailer truck. A local detour via the Leonberg-Ost exit was temporarily established during the closure of BAB 81.

The environmental department of the Böblingen district administration will begin soil removal measures following the recovery work. Witnesses with information on the course of the accident are asked to contact the Ludwigsburg Police Headquarters.
