Traffic noise measuring station established in Seukendorf as part of the ADAC initiative
In the heart of the Nuremberg metropolitan region, the ADAC traffic initiative against noise recently made a stop in Seukendorf. The event, which featured several important figures, including Mayor Sebastian Rocholl, Jürgen Hildebrandt from ADAC Nordbayern, Carsten Träger, Deputy District Administrator Franz Forman, and Kurt Krömer, chairman of the Bavarian Association of Municipalities, aimed to record noise pollution caused by vehicles and raise awareness of noise levels.
Mayor Rocholl indicated that urgent action is needed regarding the traffic noise in Seukendorf. He mentioned that the initiative was suggested by a citizen and hoped the four-week measurements would pave the way for a noise action plan, as recommended by the Federal Environment Agency.
The ADAC action utilised interactive feedback systems, not general sound level analyzers. These displays combined acoustic and optical elements, registering a signal when a defined noise threshold was exceeded. The signals, such as "Drive quietly. Save noise!" or "Thank you", were directly displayed to the vehicle driver.
Carsten Träger, a prominent figure in the event, stated that noise can cause significant health stress. He emphasised the importance of sensitising traffic participants to the effects of their driving behaviour. The old B8 route, which is relatively little-traveled but well-developed, experiences frequent noise disturbances from excessively loud motorcycles and sports cars.
Mayor Rocholl also highlighted that the district road leading through Seukendorf has a traffic volume of over 12,000 vehicles per day. The collected data from the ADAC action should serve as a basis for further measures to address traffic noise.
The aim of the ADAC initiative is to sensitize traffic participants to noise levels and their effects. The collected data will be used to develop and implement further measures to address traffic noise in Seukendorf and potentially other areas. The event in Seukendorf was an impetus for Mayor Rocholl to deal intensively with the topic of traffic noise in general.
