TrafficAccident Report: Incident B 249 - Significant Road Mishap Involving a Motor Vehicle (LPI-NDH Supplementary)
On December 26, a tragic incident occurred on the federal highway B249 between Eigenrieden and Katharinenberg. The accident involved a BMW and an Audi, resulting in a fatality and numerous injuries.
According to the Unstrut-Hainich Police Inspectorate, the BMW was traveling from Eigenrieden towards Katharinenberg when the driver veered into oncoming traffic, colliding with the Audi. The driver of the BMW, a 30-year-old individual, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The BMW was carrying the driver's 27-year-old wife and three children aged three, six, and eight. Two of the children suffered severe injuries, while the third child and the mother were also taken to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Tragically, the wife did not survive her injuries.
The other vehicle, an Audi, was driven by a 29-year-old man and was occupied by a woman of the same age. Both occupants of the Audi were injured and taken to a nearby hospital.
The road was closed from 12:45 PM to 5:45 PM as the police investigated the accident. An accident reconstruction expert was deployed to assist with the investigation.
The BMW was impounded and will be further examined by an expert. The total material damage amounts to over 12,000 euros.
