Tragedy strikes Donegal family as nine-year-old boy meets fatal end in bizarre machine mishap at home
A shocking incident has left the community of Dungloe, Co Donegal, in mourning, following the tragic death of a 9-year-old boy named Joey Forker. The accident occurred on Friday, 22nd August 2025, just after 7pm, at Meenmore, on the outskirts of Dungloe.
The Garda Síochána (Irish police) confirmed a child passed away following the tragedy. Joey was helping his father, Joe Snr, clear land when the accident happened. His body was pronounced dead at the scene, and the local emergency services, HSE, Gardai, and Fr Pat Ward, parish priest of Burtonport, were among those who responded.
Local TD Pat The Cope Gallagher attended the scene of the tragedy, paying tribute to the emergency services involved. He also expressed his condolences to the family, who are well-known and respected in the area. The community is in shock, as the Forker family is highly regarded.
A full investigation into the incident has been launched by the Health and Safety Authority (HSA). The child's body was removed to Letterkenny University Hospital, and a post-mortem examination will take place. County Donegal coroner Dr Denis McCauley also attended the scene last night.
A file will be prepared for the Coroner's Court. In the meantime, Gallagher asked for prayers and moral support to be directed towards helping the family of the deceased during this difficult time.
The local community is coming together to support the Forker family, offering their condolences and prayers. As the investigation continues, the community remains united in their grief and shock.
