In a heart-wrenching incident, at least 29 lives have been lost in a boat accident that occurred in Gausawa, Malale area of Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State on September 2, 2025. The boat was carrying 90 passengers, including women and children, who were heading to Dugga for a condolence visit.

The boat mishap took place around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The vessel collided with a tree stump after being overloaded, leading to the tragic event. A sobering detail is that none of the passengers were wearing life jackets at the time of the accident.

The mishap is being investigated by NSEMA to determine the exact cause and prevent future incidents. It's worth noting that this is the second such incident in 2025. The first also occurred due to a collision with a tree stump.

The name of the leader or captain of the boat involved in the accident has not been publicly disclosed at this time. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those affected by this tragedy.
