Trainees in firefighting duties honed in real-life scenarios among the youth

The Fire Department of the City of Arnsberg recently hosted a successful youth fire department camp in collaboration with Breitenbruch and Wennigloh. The event, which took place from Ascension Day to the following Saturday, saw 27 participants undergo rigorous training and team-building activities.

The camp began with a theoretical unit on first aid, preparing the young firefighters for real-life emergency situations. This was followed by practical exercises, including a large-scale person search in the dark on the Rüdenburg, where three missing persons were successfully found and brought to safety.

On Friday, the group visited the Hof of the firm Hilgenhaus to learn about fighting vegetation fires. They also practiced rescuing injured persons under realistic conditions at a local composting facility.

The exercise on Saturday took place in the area of Hüsten, with scenarios including leaking chemicals from a trailer, smoke development in a garden hut, and a triggered fire alarm system. The young firefighters demonstrated their well-trained and motivated skills, earning praise from the fire department leadership.

Kai Spiegel and Sascha Ricke from the leadership emphasized their pride in the youth work, commending the great commitment and excellent performances of the young firefighters. The youth and their trainers can look back with pride on what has been achieved.

A suitable water supply was ensured via a pond on the company's premises, and the camp included communal activities, such as a hike from Wennigloh to the fire station in Arnsberg. The youth fire department camp not only provided valuable training but also secured the future of the fire department, fostering a sense of community and fun among the participants.

During the camp, an unconscious person required the direct application of first aid measures, demonstrating the importance of the training provided. The camp concluded with a visit from the fire department leadership, who admired the youth fire brigade school facility.
